~outer personality~
facades – Unquestionably, her silence. The fact that she simply refuses to speak leads people to believe that she’s shy and mousy, or has no opinions, or simply doesn’t care—it’s often the opposite, but not many people actually realize that she’s a selective mute, so she puts off the impression of an antisocial little lurker quite by accident.
body language – Vienya skulks around corners and hides behind her hair. She often hides her hands, and stands with her feet close together, giving off a very hesitant air. When in conversation with others, though, she always watches them and emotes in reaction to what they say. When getting Moja to say something for her, she usually winds up ducking if he’s sitting on her head.
demeanor – Quiet. Strange. Reserved. And always, always observing others. Once people get past her silence or get used to it, they often notice that she’s watching the world around her curiously (and occasionally with suspicion), sizing up everything around her seriously. The only time she really breaks composure is when she goes cheerfully after food or rages at the vending machines that won’t give her any of it.
sense of humor – Vienya doesn’t have much of one, and complicated jokes usually go straight over her head. Obviously in her condition she doesn’t make jokes, and she hasn’t experienced enough of the world to understand a lot of satire and stereotypes that humor relies on. So far, nonsense mostly confuses her, and it’ll take more exposure to it to understand why other people think it’s so hilarious.
flaws – Voicelessness means helplessness, in a lot of different ways. And it also means she has trouble directly approaching others, unless she talks through Moja. Besides, all that skulking around out of sight means it’s hard for her to make friends. …And her tendency to trust anyone that feeds her may wind up being unhealthy.
strengths – She’s tougher than she looks and a hard worker. Vienya is here to learn—and with her background, she really appreciates the opportunity to.
voice – Who knows what she really sounds like? Moja at least is typically squawky and tends to abbreviate her thoughts into loud, often subject-dropped sentences. Vienya herself would likely speak with a slight Kyoto-ben accent, were she to actually start talking. In her thoughts, she generally uses the informal tense with a few formalisms thrown in, and her pronoun of choice is “uchi”.
